Event Information:
This is not a workshop about nature pedagogy. It’s a chance to experience it—and take it back with you.
This seasonal learning experience designed for early childhood educators and primary school teachers based on the Woden Valley Early Learning Centre Winter Nature Pedagogy Program
This winter session invites participants to experience nature pedagogy through fire, food, story, and strategy.
Follow the smell of popcorn - sit by the fire, cook stone soup with a story, & experience winter nature pedagogy for yourself.
Beginning outdoors, educators will gather around a fire, explore safe fire practices with children, and take part in a shared storytelling experience inspired by the folk story Stone Soup- where everyone contributes a little for a big community impact.
Together, we’ll cook and reflect on what it means to learn with the element of fire and reflect on the learning outcomes for children as described in the Early Years Learning Framework (aka the EYLF)
Participants will then use the Access to Nature Survey to assess environments at Woden Valley ELC through lived experience, before moving indoors for the “Build Your Climate Strategy” approach—supporting educators to translate values into practical action within their own settings.
The session concludes with a group reflection, and shared insights.

The February workshop at Woden Valley was fantastic, inspiring over 40 participants, showcasing the Summer gardens, and encouraging us all to do effective Nature Pedagogy advocacy for and with the youngest children.
Throughout 2026 the Australian Association for Environmental Education ACT (AAEE ACT) is highlighting Early Childhood settings and practices providing environmental and nature experiences and learning.
