Learn all about one of Canberra's best-kept secrets, the Southern Tablelands Ecosystems Park (aka the STEP garden)!

STEP is a regional botanic garden, education and conservation site that showcases native species of the Southern Tablelands, including eucalypt woodlands, grasslands, and understorey plants characteristic of the local region.

Important: Meet at the National Arboretum’s Village Centre front/ carpark entrance, at 1pm sharp. Please wear suitable walking shoes and appropriate clothing, it can be windy and cold this time of the year. More about the National Arboretum. More about the STEP garden. After the walk join other environmental educators at the Arboretum Café for coffee and a networking opportunity.

This 1.5 hour walk for educators will be led one of the National Arboretum's professional educator’s. It will move through several forest plantings, before arriving at the Southern Tablelands Ecosystems Park (aka STEP) - Forest 20.

Designed as a living learning space, the STEP garden specifically showcases critically endangered ecosystems such as the Yellow Box/Red Gum grassy woodland, providing an ideal setting for dialogue, observation, and reflection on environmental education.
