Since opening in 1993, the National Dinosaur Museum has grown to be the largest permanent
display of dinosaurs and prehistoric life in Australia. Wander through the Dinosaur Garden, handle million year old fossils, and learn about dinosaurs and their world on one of the museums highly regarded educational tours.

The National Dinosaur Museum school education programs are suitable for all primary and
secondary aged students and can be tailored to complement the curriculum that students are
learning in class.The programs will particularly interest students and teachers who are passionate about earth science, paleontology and prehistoric life.

Features:  
  • Each program runs for 90 minutes’ with a 60 minute guided tour, and 30 minutes to experience the interactive areas or to browse through Canberra’s largest display of fossils, minerals and natural crystals, and a diverse range of science and dinosaur themed souvenirs.
  • Dinosaur Tours are available during the day and night, with night tours offering students the
    opportunity to learn about dinosaurs by torchlight
  • The exhibition provides a journey through the entire history of life on Earth, from the most primitive life through to fish, amphibians, dinosaurs, reptiles, birds and mammals. 
  • Dinosaur displays begin with the earliest dinosaurs and progress through the different eras, highlighting Australian dinosaurs, and move through the Ice Age, to finish with more recent megafauna.
  • Students are led by experienced tour guides through the dinosaur age in an educational, entertaining, and interactive program. They learn about the features and evolution of dinosaurs, how they became extinct, and the science used to learn about the prehistoric world.
  • In addition to the dinosaurs, students have the opportunity to learn about other prehistoric life, including the rise of mammals, and human evolution in the Ice Age exhibit.
  • During their visit students can handle a genuine 150 million year old dinosaur fossil, touch a real150 kg meteorite and even hold a piece of 100 million year old dinosaur dung.
